Priorities

Health and Well-being of our Neighbors and Communities

As a former Select Board member for Waitsfield,  I worked hard with other Select Board members to keep taxes in check, so that our neighbors can afford to live and prosper here. As a state legislator, I am committed to policies to support our rural communities, such as expanding housing and broadband. I support strategies to encourage “smart growth” principles that compliment our historic villages and enhance our pedestrian and bike-friendly commercial districts. I will also continue to work hard to ensure that Vermonters have access to assistance they need during times of crisis.

The Environment

Vermont’s economy and its brand depend on the health and safety of the environment. Over the past 28 years, I have focused my professional career on the sound management of Vermont’s waters to benefit the economic and ecological health of our communities and our quality of life. My approach will be to continue to emphasize and foster strong partnerships with municipalities, businesses, local organizations and you to ensure a healthy environment for people of all ages and future generations to enjoy.

Rural Economy

I know how important it is for small, rural towns to achieve and sustain economic vitality. I will continue to support our family farms and forestlands which are integral to our heritage and economy. I will work to support our four-season, outdoor recreation and tourism-based economy. I will continue to support workforce training and post-secondary education, especially via the State College System, so that businesses get the skilled employees they need. I will continue to support access to affordable childcare. I will seek policies that will attract new business to our rural communities, such as in the fields of local foods, the arts and the “creative economy,” and health and wellness.

Kari is committed to community, economy & the environment.
